Beaune - Paris
Beaune is a walled city in France and is called the wine capital of Burgundy. This is where Lene was able to visit a hospital for x-rays and a cast. Oddly enough, the Hospices de Beaune is a Catholic institution of healing that started receiving patients in 1452. It appears that Beaune is still in the business of healing today, and Lene received a souvenir consisting of a “Plaster of Paris” cast on her leg!
Once we reached the final destination of Paris, our guide Joe was able to rent us a wheelchair, so that I could push Lene around the Eiffel Tower, and visit a local bistro for lunch. We had to skip the visit to the Louvre museum as the Paris Metro subway system and environs are not really ADA accessible for wheelchairs. I’m not exactly sure what the locals do here when they can’t walk.
I did get to take the local tour visiting the Cathédrale Notre-Dame (under repairs) and the Sainte-Chapelle while Lene rested.
We finished up the tour with a final team dinner that evening at a restaurant called ‘La Terrasse du 7ᵉ’. The next morning, a taxi ride was taken to the Charles de Gaulle airport, and we returned home where Lene visited a local doctor that ordered surgery to install a plate and screws in her leg bone to help it heal.
